Manchester City vs Tottenham Hotspur
Manchester City vs Tottenham Hotspur (3-0)
Pep’s City have been unreal this season and have gone on to grab their 16th consecutive win in all competitions. They played some brilliant football which saw them dominate Spurs throughout the game and not even for a second did it feel like they were going to bottle it. City ended the game with 60% of the possession and most of the game was played in the spurs half with the likes of Sterling, Gundogan and Foden wriggling past the spurs defenders and it almost felt like they were messing around with them. Spurs give away a penalty which looked like Hojbjerg clashed with Ilkay in the box and both players seemed to have lost balance but due to their being sufficient contact made by the Viking, the penalty was given.
A truly heartbreaking moment took place when Ederson came up to the half line to take the penalty but was sent back by Bernado Silva. Although Rodri scored, it was an unconvincing penalty and slipped past through Lloris. Hopefully Ederson gets to take the next one as that would be something every football fan would be looking forward to.A questionable change would be that of Lucas Moura being subbed off for Moussa Sissoko which may have been made to push their inform player Ndombele higher up the pitch but it made it seem like Spurs were trying to damage control the 1-0 advantage of city. Even after adding another defence minded players, the City forwards managed to score a beautiful team goal involving Jesus, Sterling, Foden and saw Gundogan burying it into the near post of Lloris, who seemed to have gotten confused whether to go for it with the foot or hand and ended up conceding the goal
At the 64th minute, Dele Alli was subbed on for Ndombele which was a key decision as even though the midfielder has been out of form and not getting enough game time, he is the kind of player who could make something out of nothing and if had he been in form, could’ve turned the game around for Spurs. At the 65th minute, Ederson played a world class pass from his box which broke past the spurs high defence line and saw Gundogan run through on goal and then drop Sanchez on the ground and scored another wonderful goal. Gundogan has certainly found his Dortmund form this season having stepped up in the absence of Kevin De Bruyne and Aguero which totalled his count to 11 goals this season. Gareth bale did manage to dribble past three of the city defenders and took on a decent shot which Ederson denied with an even better save but signs of the world class Bale were shown in bits and it could be a promising sign for Spurs. The game ended with the final score of 3-0 and City deserved the win but it could’ve been a completely different ending if Kane’s early freekick would’ve gone in, instead of hitting the post.
