Sensible Transfers : Liverpool

This is a new series in which i’ll be covering over players that I believe would be the most suitable transfers for the club depending on the transfer budget and play style of the player.

Today the team in discussion would be : Liverpool.

The merseyside reds have fallen from grace in the current premier league season due to crucial injuries of Virgil Van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Diogo Jota and their star signing Thiago Alcantrara having trouble finding his quintuple winning form with Bayern Munich. They have also lost three consecutive home games to Burnley, Brighton and Manchester City respectively which has destroyed the Anfield reputation held over years.

To find out which players to suggest, we need to first identify the areas in which Liverpool need to strengthen to get back to winning ways. The first and most important position for Liverpool to strengthen would be ...

The Finisher :

 Best Option) Olivier Giroud

Olivier Giroud is a highly underrated Striker, and even though he may be past his prime, he still has enough fuel in him to suit the Liverpool style of play. Having appeared for Chelsea and Arsenal already, the Frenchmen has scored 89 goals in 250 games in the premier league and has already scored 8 goals in 17 appearances for the blues this season as he would usually come of the bench due to Werner and Abraham being preferred first. This is a better average than Firmino’s 6 goals in 23 appearances plus the signing of a natural striker would see him return to his preferred CAM / supporting striker role where he has performed better. Having clearly spoken about his lack of game time, the Frenchmen would be the perfect signing for Liverpool as he would cost them between 5-10 million and would work perfectly in the crossing attacking system Liverpool play,  with their fullbacks Trent and Robertson lofting in balls for the frenchmen. Liverpool also don’t require a long term solution in that position as Diogo Jota looked promising before his injury spell having scored 9 goals in 17 appearances for the club.

Alternative option would be Diego Costa who has recently had his contract terminated with Athletico Madrid and averaged 0.76 g/a during his time in the premier league with the Blues.

The second area which Liverpool would need to strengthen would be …

The Secondary Stone Wall :

  Best Option) James Tarkowski

This area isn’t the priority for Liverpool to fix as they have signed Ben Davies and Ozan Kabak, but they are still prospects and won’t show instant leadership at the back. Having out of position players such as Jordan Henderson and Fabinho playing at the back has let Liverpool down and the missing of Virgil Van Dijk is clearly being shown. James Tarkowski has been a stone wall for Burnley this season averaging 2.1 tackles per game, 1.4 interceptions and 4.6 clearances per game in the premier league, bettering Joel Matip’s 1.5 tackles pr game, 0.6 interceptions and 2.4 clearances per game. Tarkowski would also as  be a mentor to the young defenders at Anfield due to his experience and  would arguably form the best defending partnership with Virgil Van Dijk. The Englishmen would cost Liverpool a fee from 30-35 million as his contract does expire in the summer of 2022 and he is worth every million.

Alternative option would be Jannick Vestergaard from Southampton who averages 1.5 tackles per game,  1.2 interceptions and 3.7 clearances per game.

These transfers could see Liverpool regain their dominance in the premier league and champions league. Comment below the signings you think I missed out on.
