England vs Scotland Recap

England vs Scotland (0-0) didn’t exactly live up to the hype but it was certainly a well fought match. Kieran Tierney returned to Scotland’s first 11 and we also saw the integration of Luke Shaw and Reece James in the England side. Both teams were quite evenly matched and none of them looked like they were going to grab the winner. Despite England’s quality, Scotland put them on the backfoot and tried to go for the win.

Three Lions, Zero Creativity

England looked quite dull and uncreative while going forward. If only they had a player who could create chances out of nothing and give them an edge. Starting Luke Shaw and Reece James did work out as they were good and played their part. Harry Kane has not looked himself in the initial games of the group stage. He was invisible during huge periods of the game and couldn’t impact the game much. He had the least touches in the first half and only one in the Scotland box. Jordan Pickford secured a point for England and was arguably one of the best players on the pitch. Even though they have played well defensively, their attack not clicking is an alarming sign. The way they have played, wouldn’t see them go much further. Starting Grealish and DCL in place of Harry Kane and Phil Foden might just pay off against Czech Republic as those two need a rest.

The Scot’s Spirit

Scotland took the game to England fought them with heart. Even Scotland didn’t create many clear chances but they looked threatening going forward. They certainly seemed to have improved defensively compared to the Czech Republic game, and Kieran Tierney and Billy Gilmour were huge additions into the 11. Tierney might have also arguably been the best Scottish player on the pitch tonight. Che Adams was threatening during the first half but seemed to have dipped in performance later on in the game. Even though Andrew Robertson couldn’t replicate his great 5 chances created against Czech Republic in this game, he still didn’t have a bad game. This point kept Scotland alive till the next game, giving them a chance to qualify for further rounds. If they convert their chances against Croatia and give it their all, we might just see them in the Round of 16.
